How do I search for someone?
You can search by country. Click on a country that you have been to or lived in. You can search by name. In the search box type in your first name (or your secret holiday name). You can also try typing in the name of someone you are looking for. **keep in mind that spelling may be different so try a few variations or partials.** In some cases when search results come up in a list it is because in the body of the ads they have used the keyword you specified in your search. You may need to open the ad to see the relevant information.
I found someone! How do I contact them?
Excellent! In order to reply to ads you will need to have a password (it is free). We do this to ensure that the email address you supply is the correct email address and that it is functioning. We do not share user information with other parties. If you have any concerns please see our Privacy/Terms of Use Agreement the link is at the bottom of this page.
Fill in the form below the ad and click send. The email address you put in the form will be sent to the ad poster. They will then contact you directly at the email address you provided. An email containing the information on the form (except the user name password) is sent to the ad poster as well as to you. As a back up feature a copy is also sent to the ad posters Lost Trekkers account.
When I place an ad when does the ad runtime start? My ad is missing where is it?
Ads run until you email in and ask us to take it down. Until then we are going to assume that you have not found the person and would like to continue looking. Ad run time does not start until your ad has been submitted, approved
and is live on the website. All ads are proofed by real humans before
posting. Approval time may vary depending on volume, during regular business
hours approval time is a maximum 24 hours. You will be notified via email when your ad has been approved and is live. All ads will be checked for offensive/inappropriate content, we want to keep this a fun all ages site. We do reserve the right to reject ads at our discretion. If an ad is rejected we may notifiy you via email with the reason why. In some cases we may just delete the ad without notifying you. Reasons for this include an email address you registered with not working. Incorrect information entered. Example City/Area is not in the same country you chose Invalid dates in the month & year areas. If you use a year in the month area it has to be the same as what is in the year area You will need to log-in to your account and edit your ad or place a new ad after checking your email address is correct and the ad form is filled in correctly. With 1 exception, if you place a crap ad including spam, nonsense or commercial advertising the ad will be deleted along with the account and no email notification will be sent. This is a free site, the ads that run on it are the only source of revenue and they barely cover the server costs so we won't waste our time notifiying people of things that are outlined on the forms and here in the FAQ's.
How Does my account work?
Each account has the ability to post 1 ad. All of the fields with the
exception of "screen name" can be edited. If part way through
your ad run time you find that you would like to change it (look for
someone else, choose a different country) you may do so at anytime.
You are responsible for keeping your account sign in information private. Do not share
your account log-in information with anyone.
"Manage Your Ad" page - Here you can view and edit your ad "Your User Information" page - Here you can update/change your Name, Email Address, Password Country you reside in. "Responses" page - When you get responses to your ad via the form on the ad page they will be listed here. "FAQ's" page - That would be this one :-) "Travel Links" page - Some great travel resources. We have attempted to keep it to links to sites where you can get information without having to register to look. "Logout" This will log you out of the website. As a safety feature the website will automatically log you out after 15 minutes of inactivity.
If I edit my ad does it need to be approved again?
Any edits that you make to your ad will have to be re-approved. Your ad will no longer be live on the website until the edits have been approved. Log in to your account. You will be on the page that your ad is listed on. Scroll to the right and click on "edit" in the edit column.

Can I submit a photo? If so are there any restrictions?
You may submit a picture with your ad. Pictures are subject to approval
before being posted live. We do recommend that you use a picture of yourself. In some cases folks may recognize a face rather than a name. As well if you use a picture of yourself the odds of someone else you may have met on your travels finding your ad and contacting you are greater. Please do not submit pictures where there are people in the photo who are recognizable and who are not aware that there is a photo being taken. You can upload pictures with the following extensions: GIF,JPG,JPEG,BMP,PNG If your picture is not one of these, save it as one. The file size limit for pictures is 20kb. To decrease the size of your file you can save it as a smaller size or save it as a jpg/jpeg file. These are usually a smaller file size than the other formats. Open your picture in your picture editor. Click "file" choose "save as" and in the "save as type" field choose jpg/jpeg.
How will people contact me?
Folks that reply to your ad do so using a form at the bottom of your ad. When they click the button: An email is sent to you. The person responding does not see your email address, it is sent off the website to you. A copy of the message is also emailed to them. When you receive the emails the address in the "To" field will be theirs. In order for both parties to receive a copy it is sent to them and you are bcc'd. There is also a copy of all message in your account. Click on "Responses" on the menu bar. Both the emails that are sent the responses stored in your account contain the respondents email address so you can contact them directly. You can put a direct email address in the body of your ad, however as an FYI spammers do go through websites and collect displayed email addresses for their lists. We have no way of monitoring or tracking emails sent through an email address displayed in the body of the ad.
I am not receiving emails from Lost Trekkers where are they?
The response emails are sent to you from the email address webmaster@losttrekkers.com They are sent off the server which is one of the main triggers for email filter programs to classify an email as spam and file it accordingly. Check your email program help menu to find out how to allow specific emails. You may not realize that your program has filters some are built in (AOL). Usually you will only need to enter webmaster@losttrekkers.com into your address book however all email programs/services are different. A few examples are below. If you are still having an issue contact your email provider. Hotmail may put them in the "junk" folder (If it is not there you may have blocks set up) AOL may put them in the "spam" folder (If it is not there you may have blocks set up) Yahoo may put them in the "bulk" folder Earthlink may put them in a "suspect" folder
