Tips on how to find people for free

Lost Trekker Site Updates

We now have over 16,000 unique visitors a month on the Lost Trekkers website. There are now just over 4000 ads posted. Over the last 3 months we have increased our traffic by over 30%. This is good news, it increases the chances of the people/person that you are looking for finding the Lost Trekkers site and your ad.

In an effort to increase traffic and exposure Lost Trekkers has implemented a share on Facebook button on the bottom of every page of the website. If you have not already done so please share us with your Facebook contacts. We are also constantly adding Lost Trekkers to directories and forming link partnerships in an effort to increase website traffic. Several months ago we put a feed onto Twitter so that all new ads posted on Lost Trekkers are also tweeted via the Twitter account. This gives your ads even more exposure.  Internet technology is constantly changing and we are doing our best to ensure that your ad will be seen by as many people as possible.

Over the last year we have had over 100 people let us know that they have found who they were looking for via the ad they had placed on Lost Trekkers. We so appreciate them sharing their stories with us.

If you have not been on the site in a while we encourage you to take a look through the ads, you may be able to help another trekker find the person they are looking for. It is also a good idea to log-in to your account every now and then to check for replies to your ad.

Placing Ads When You Have Never Met The Person

This is an issue that is coming up more than we thought it would when we launched the site. Many folks are placing ads looking for birth parents or pen pals and in many cases they have not met face to face with the person they are looking for. What to do in the Country and City/Area spots on the ad?

We suggest that when you have not met the person that you are looking for that you put the last Country and City/Area that you knew them to be living in. Your best chance of them or someone they know finding the ad is to list it under a country that they would check if they came on the Lost Trekkers site. If they have lived somewhere odds are good they will check the ads listed for that country. There is also a better chance that someone they know who lived in the same area at the same time will see the ad and let the person you are looking for know about it. With that in mind for the year & month areas put the year or range of years that you knew the person was in the area that you chose to list your ad under.  Again this way if people are scanning the ads the country, city & year are displayed on the list so they are more apt to click on an ad for more information if they where in the same place at the same time.

On that note, for all ads make sure that the City/Area is in the country you choose to list your ad under. It is very confusing if you put New York as the city and Philippines as the country. We try to catch those ads and fix them but sometimes we are caffeine deprived and they slip through.

We hope that you found the how to find people information in the newsletter useful. There are many ways to find people for free. Thank you for helping to promote Lost Trekkers. We wish you all the best with your search.

How To Find People For Free Using Vanity Searches

Everyone should do a vanity search on the major search engines every now and then to find out what information there is on the Internet about them. Most employers do check the Internet for information on job applicants. You should know what it is they may find on you. You can also look up other peoples names in the same way you would look yourself up. This won't work if you only have a first name as there would be too many results. The exception being if it is an unusual name, then there might be a chance. More information on how to find people for free will be in future newsletters.

On Google, Yahoo & Bing in the search box type in your name in quotations "your name" You can also add the city or country you are from/have lived/worked in to narrow down the results, "your name" USA. It is always better to use less criteria so you get the maximum results. It means more to scan through but it makes sure you don't miss anything. You can search on anyone's name and it is free, it just may take awhile. Try different spellings of names as well to make sure you don't miss any results. You may get different results for each search engine so it is always best to check them all. This is just 1 of many ways to find people for free. Lots of folks are registered on facebook, be sure to do a search there as well. Google +1 has a people search function as well.

How You Get Free Ads

Affiliates without who's $'s we would not be able to provide this service to you for free.

Home Exchange Swap Houses - Hotel rooms are expensive, stay in a loft in Manhattan, a ski condo in Aspen, or a beach house in Australia.

Sharing Too Much - TMI Folks

A few tips on sharing in ads, most people don't do this but there are a few who have. We recommend that you not put your direct contact information into an ad. We won't approve ads that have other peoples contact info or too much information about them. Example; no one needs to know someone's former phone number, social security number, email address or in most cases year of birth. It won't help you find who you are looking for and you endanger the person you are looking for. There are all sorts of weirdo's in the world and most of them have internet connections. Put enough information in your ad so the person you are looking for will know who you are and be able to identify themselves in the ad.

Trying to find an old flame?

For people looking for a lost romantic partner. Be considerate, it is entirely possible that the person you are looking for is in a relationship. Professing undying love publicly not only has the potential
to be embarrassing for the person doing it but it may put the person being looked for
into a bad situation. This could range from having to have an uncomfortable conversation to putting them in physical danger depending on who they are with.

Keep your messages neutral, once they have contacted you any communication is
between the 2 of you so that would be the time to let them know how you feel.

When writing your ad don't put anything in it that you wouldn't want to see on
the Internet about yourself if you were in a relationship and someone from your
past wanted to re-connect.
